WALKSacramento is an organization of urban planners, community engagement specialists, and public health professionals dedicated to creating safe, walkable livable communities for personal health, transportation and recreation. Many of our efforts focus on reducing roadway collisions and helping to achieve greenhouse gas emission goals. You will be responsible for supporting various projects related to health, safety, and the built environment.
This internship is ideal for a student or professional looking to enter a career in urban and environmental planning or public health. You will be exposed to a wide variety of projects and initiatives, providing you an insight into this growing industry.
COMPENSATION:
$12.50/hour
SCHEDULE:
We are looking for someone available to work between 10 and 20 hours per week Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM. We offer a flexible schedule.
DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Support WALKSacramento’s community engagement work in South Sacramento, Arden-Arcade, and other parts of the region.
Research, compile, and report on data related to land use and transportation, urban policy, and other issue areas.
Draft reports, letters, and educational materials (guides, post cards, flyers, etc.).
Assist in developing and delivering community based education and encouragement programs.
Collaborate with community partners and partner organizations.
Maintain WALKSacramento’s social media accounts.
Assist with minor administrative tasks.
QUALIFICIATIONS:
Class projects or studio work related to transportation, urban planning, community engagement, and/or public health.
Proven ability to perform in a paid work environment with intermittent supervision.
Current undergraduate college/university student with an interest in urban and transportation planning, community development, and health. Intern should be self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that requires multi-tasking, time management, and attention to detail.
Ability to effectively communicate with various age groups including children and older adults.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Proficient with MS Office products.
Experience with ArcGIS and Adobe Suite preferred but not required.
Own transportation required with valid California Driver’s license.
