Development Review
Project Background
One of the foundations of safe, walkable communities is the built environment. The design of buildings and streets, the relationship between buildings and the street, and the arrangement of land uses influence people’s decision to walk or not. In the past 60 years, because our communities have been designed for the use of automobiles for all transportation, there has been a great loss of knowledge about how to design buildings and communities for walking. WALKSacramento works to fill in that gap, by reviewing development proposals that have been submitted to the planning departments of local jurisdictions.
